Part-time Job Opportunities

Work Hours for International Students in the Germany

  • Students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during vacations.
  • The average pay for part-time jobs is around €6–€8 per hour, allowing students to earn approximately €500–€700 per month (equivalent to ₹40,000–₹50,000).
  • Part-time jobs can be found through local newspapers, job shops, and the career cells at universities and colleges, which provide information about available vacancies.

Post-Graduation Work Opportunities and Pathways to Permanent Residency (PR) in the Germany

18 Months 

While your residence permit extension allows you to stay back in Germany and look for relevant job opportunities, it will only allow you to stay back for 18 months only. 


Therefore, it is advisable to apply for the EU Blue Card, issued specifically to non-EU/ EEA graduates from German universities who wish to stay back and work in Germany.

Australia offers excellent post-study work opportunities for Indian and international students, allowing them to gain valuable work experience and potentially transition to permanent residency. Here's a detailed guide:


Post-Study Work Rights

The stay-back duration depends on the level of education completed and the location of the institution.

  1. Undergraduate Degree (Bachelor's):
    • Stay-back period: 2 years
    • Extended stay: Additional 1-2 years for studying in regional areas.


  1. Postgraduate Degree (Master's):
    • Stay-back period: 3 years
    • Extended stay: Additional 1-2 years for studying in regional areas.


  1. Doctoral Degree (PhD):
    • Stay-back period: 4 years


Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

  • This visa allows international students to stay back and work in Australia after completing their studies.
  • Streams:
    • Post-Study Work Stream: For graduates of higher education degrees (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD).
    • Graduate Work Stream: For those who graduate with skills related to an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).


Stay-Back Benefits for Regional Study

Transition to Permanent Residency (PR)

Indian students can use their stay-back period to gain work experience and apply for permanent residency. PR pathways include:

  1. Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189): Based on a points system for skilled workers.
  2. Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190): For skilled workers nominated by a state or territory.
  3. Employer-Sponsored Visas: If employed by an Australian company willing to sponsor a PR application.


Eligibility Criteria for Stay-Back Options
